SHORT STORY: The Fork Union Military Academy Cross Country team turned in an outstanding performance Friday afternoon at the Virginia Prep League Championships held at Woodberry Forest School, finishing second overall out of six competing schools.
Three Blue Devils crossed the finish line in the top 15 to earn All-Prep League honors, including a bronze-medal performance by junior David Eaton, who placed third overall.
In addition to the varsity success, Fork Union's Junior Varsity team continued the momentum, winning the JV meet with five runners placing inside the top 10. Freshman Braden Ferguson captured the individual JV title with a time of 20:44.10, earning a berth to the VISAA State Championships.
Overall, Fork Union tallied 63 points to claim second place. St. Christopher's School won the team title with 36 points, followed by Woodberry Forest (84), St. Anne's-Belfield (91), Collegiate (93), and Trinity Episcopal (148). In the JV race, the Blue Devils took first with 29 points, followed by Collegiate (60), Woodberry Forest (62), and St. Anne's-Belfield (81).
QUOTE: "All the credit to St. Christopher's today," said head coach Winston Brown. "They were the better team, but I know we can run better. We'll see how we regroup. I'm really proud of our JV team for winning their race—especially freshman Brayden Ferguson for earning a ticket to the state meet."
