FORK UNION ATHLETIC TRAINING

The Fork Union Military Academy Athletic Training Staff is proud to serve the healthcare needs of all Fork Union cadets both athletes and none. The athletic trainers work very closely with the staff at the Infirmary and under direct supervision of team physicians, Matthew Panzarella, MD. The athletic training room is located on the ground floor of the Estes Athletic Center. The athletic training room houses numerous pieces of rehabilitation equipment and modalities, giving the athletic training staff the ability to provide care to numerous cadets.

FORK UNION'S CONCUSSION PROTOCOL

VISITING TEAM INFORMATION:

Dear Visiting Athletic Teams,

On behalf of the Athletic Training staff at Fork Union Military Academy (FUMA), we welcome you and your team to our campus for the 2026–2027 school year. To ensure a safe and efficient experience for your athletes, please review our medical guidelines and facility protocols below.

Our Athletic Training Room (ATR) is located on the ground floor of the Estes Athletic Center and opens two hours prior to competition. Visiting teams must pre-arrange ATR use at least 48 hours in advance, and all visiting athletes must be accompanied by a coach or athletic trainer. Available modalities are limited to hydrocollators, ice/wrap, and taping tables. General locker rooms are available upon arrival, and football locker rooms can be equipped with a taping table and water or injury ice upon request. Kindly provide advanced notice if you will require assistance in getting any of your supplies to your sideline.

Sideline setups vary by sport. For standard outdoor sports, we provide one 10-gallon water cooler; football sidelines receive three 10-gallon coolers. Visiting teams must bring their own cups or water bottles. Additionally, if your team uses Gatorade, you must bring your own coolers and powder, as mixing Gatorade in FUMA coolers is strictly prohibited. Visiting football sidelines will receive a dedicated injury ice chest, while ice for all other sports will be located on the home bench. Emergency equipment—including splints, crutches, a spine board, and an AED—will be readily accessible on the home sideline.

Every effort will be made for a doctor and EMS to be present at all home football contests. A certified athletic trainer will be on-site for all home contests. If your team is traveling without an athletic trainer, please notify us 48 hours in advance and provide a list of athletes requiring tape. Traveling teams must bring their own stocked medical kits and taping supplies. While we are happy to assist with taping, we do not provide materials, and our staff will not perform therapeutic treatments on visiting athletes.

We look forward to hosting you at Fork Union Military Academy and wish your team a safe and successful season. Please reach out if you have any questions or require special accommodation prior to your arrival.

Sincerely,

Fork Union Military Academy Athletic Training StaffÂ
