FORK UNION, VA – Three Fork Union Military Academy postgraduate lacrosse players celebrated a major milestone Friday morning as they officially signed to continue their academic and athletic careers at the collegiate level.
Kingston Poe, a 6-foot-1 attack from Rogersville, Missouri, will continue his lacrosse career at the University of Utah,
David Crumback, a 6-foot-1 middie from London, Ontario, will attend Catawba College, and
Thomas Howley, a 6-foot-4 goalie from Ithaca, New York, will join the lacrosse program at Virginia Military Institute (VMI).
Surrounded by teammates, coaches, faculty, and members of the Fork Union community, the three cadets were recognized for their hard work, dedication, and commitment to excellence both on and off the field.
Head Coach
Chris Panos praised each player for the unique contributions they have made to the program and expressed his excitement for their futures.
Kingston Poe | University of Utah | Postgraduate | Rogersville, Missouri
A team captain and Fork Union's leading scorer, Poe has established himself as one of the program's most competitive and impactful players.
Coach Panos recalled the persistence it took to bring Poe to Fork Union, sharing stories of late-night recruiting calls and his determination to give the talented athlete an opportunity to develop his game.
"Probably one of the most competitive guys I've ever been around," Panos said. "He's just an alpha in all areas, and he's done really well leading the program."
Poe expressed gratitude for the opportunities Fork Union has provided and reflected on his initial hesitation about attending a military academy.
"I was questioning it at the start. I didn't know if I wanted to do a military academy, but I knew it was going to toughen me up and get me ready for college lacrosse," Poe shared.
He also thanked his family, particularly his brothers, for pushing him to become the player he is today.
David Crumback | Catawba College | Postgraduate | London, Ontario
A two-year starter and team captain, Crumback has become a cornerstone of the PG Lacrosse program through his versatility, leadership, and relentless work ethic.
Describing Crumback as a "Swiss Army knife," Coach Panos emphasized his ability to contribute in multiple areas of the game while setting an example for his teammates.
"Strong character, integrity, superior work ethic, great teammate," Panos said. "I've seen him grow in leaps and bounds over the last two years."
Beyond his athletic accomplishments, Crumback has demonstrated a strong commitment to academics and personal development throughout his time at Fork Union.
During the ceremony, Crumback thanked his parents, teammates, coaches, and members of the Academy community who helped him navigate the college application and recruitment process.
He specifically recognized Coach Panos, Coach Jeune, Coach Fry, and Mrs. Elizabeth Patrick for their guidance and encouragement.
"They made sure I got better, and they made sure I was the best I could be every day," Crumback said of his coaches.
Thomas Howley | Virginia Military Institute | Postgraduate | Ithaca, New York
Standing 6-foot-4, Howley has been a commanding presence in goal for the Fork Union PG Lacrosse program.
Coach Panos praised Howley's athleticism, quickness, and ability to lead the defense, describing him as a quiet but influential leader whose actions speak louder than words.
"He commands the defense. He's the quarterback, if you will," Panos said. "Maybe not a captain on paper, but someone who leads by example. Guys look up to him."
Howley arrived at Fork Union with aspirations of attending VMI, making the Academy's military structure and emphasis on discipline an ideal environment to prepare for his next chapter.
During his remarks, Howley thanked his coaches, teammates, and the Fork Union community for helping him prepare for the challenges and opportunities ahead.
"I made some of my best friends here," Howley shared. "Thank you to everyone at Fork Union for helping me and preparing me for my next four years at VMI."
The ceremony celebrated more than three college commitments. It recognized the dedication, perseverance, and personal growth that have defined each cadet's journey.
For Coach Panos, the opportunity to watch his players advance to the collegiate level is a reflection of their hard work and the culture they have helped build within the PG Lacrosse program.
As Poe, Crumback, and Howley prepare for their next chapters, they carry with them the lessons, friendships, and experiences gained at Fork Union Military Academy.
Congratulations, gentlemen, on this outstanding achievement!
