FORK UNION, VA – Fork Union Military Academy proudly announces that two Blue Devils have signed Letters of Intent to continue their athletic careers at the collegiate level.
Carmelo Spaulding has committed to American International College to play football, while Samuel "Obi" Okoturo has signed with Albright College to compete in wrestling. Okoturo became the first Fork Union wrestler in recent years to sign at the collegiate level, marking a milestone for the program.
"Spaulding has had a great career here at Fork Union Military Academy," said head football coach Dealton Cotton. "We are very proud of him for making it through and doing all the right things to be successful. He has a big journey ahead of him, and we're proud of his efforts on the football field, the track, and as a cadet. We wish him the best of luck."
Spaulding, a wide receiver and defensive back from Broad Brook, Connecticut, is the son of Camela Smith and has attended the Academy since the 10th grade.
"First and foremost, I would like to thank the man above, God, for allowing me to be here today," said Spaulding. "If you know me, you know I've had a long journey at Fork Union, and I'm just thankful for everyone who helped me get to this point. I truly appreciate all the support and am excited for what's ahead."
On the wrestling mat, Okoturo earned a career record of 33-19 as a 285-pound heavyweight. He is the son of Nnenna and Oritisereneye Okoturo and is a native of Alexandria, Virginia.
"Obi probably has one of the biggest hearts on campus," said head wrestling coach Marshall Smith. "He would run through a brick wall if you asked him to. His work ethic is top notch, and I couldn't be prouder of him. He is our first wrestling college commit since COVID, and I can't wait to watch him thrive at the next level."
"I would like to thank my coaches, thank God, my friends, and teammates," said Okoturo. "I'm truly grateful for everyone who provided me with this opportunity."
