Fork Union Alumnus Eddie George '91 Nominated for Pro Football Hall of Fame Class of 2026

Fork Union Military Academy proudly congratulates alumnus Eddie George, a member of the Class of 1991, on his nomination for the Pro Football Hall of Fame Class of 2026. George, who currently serves as the Mike and Jan Wilcox Head Football Coach at Bowling Green State University, is one of 128 Modern-Era nominees being considered for induction into football's most prestigious fraternity.

This marks George's third nomination for the Hall of Fame. He was previously named a semifinalist in 2022 and 2024.

Widely regarded as one of the most productive and durable running backs of his era, George enjoyed a decorated nine-year NFL career with the Tennessee Titans (formerly Houston Oilers) and Dallas Cowboys. A four-time Pro Bowl selection, he rushed for 10,441 career yards, including 10,009 yards with the Titans, making him the franchise's all-time leading rusher.

George became the only running back in NFL history to record 300 or more carries in eight consecutive seasons. Alongside Hall of Famer Jim Brown, he is one of just two running backs ever to surpass 10,000 rushing yards without missing a single start.

During his eight seasons with the Titans (1996–2003), George never missed a game, starting all 128 contests, and rushed for over 1,000 yards seven times. His standout year came in 2000, when he tallied 1,509 rushing yards, 16 touchdowns, and led the Titans to a 13-3 record and an appearance in Super Bowl XXXIV.

"It's such an honor to be considered for the Pro Football Hall of Fame," George has said of his nomination. "This is not an easy fraternity to get into. Just to be considered for it is an accomplishment unto itself."
Before becoming a college and professional football legend, George honed his discipline, leadership, and athletic talent at Fork Union Military Academy. After transferring from Abington High School in Philadelphia, George became a two-sport star for the Blue Devils.

In just two years, he rushed for 2,572 yards and 25 touchdowns, leading the 1989 team as captain and posting 1,372 yards and 15 touchdowns in his senior season alone. He was equally dominant in track and field, earning state titles in the 300-meter hurdles.

After Fork Union, George starred at Ohio State University, where he rushed for 3,768 yards and 44 touchdowns, earning the 1995 Heisman Trophy, Doak Walker Award, and ESPY for College Player of the Year. He was later selected in the first round of the 1996 NFL Draft by the Houston Oilers.

George's professional career was defined by durability, consistency, and leadership. In addition to his four Pro Bowl selections and 1996 NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year award, he helped lead Tennessee to multiple playoff appearances and remains one of the most respected figures in franchise history.

The Pro Football Hall of Fame Selection Committee will narrow the list of nominees to 25 semifinalists later this fall, followed by 15 Modern-Era Player Finalists. The final Class of 2026 will be selected and announced ahead of Super Bowl LX.
Only 10 Heisman Trophy winners have been inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame, with Charles Woodson (2021) being the most recent.

Beyond the field, George continues to embody the Fork Union spirit of leadership and excellence. In addition to his coaching career at Bowling Green, he is a respected mentor, entrepreneur, and community leader.

Fork Union Military Academy is proud to celebrate George's continued success and lasting legacy, and we join the football world in congratulating him on this well-deserved honor.
