SHORT STORY: Fork Union Military Academy's swimming program opened its season with an impressive performance at the Woodberry Forest December Invitational at Ruffin Memorial Natatorium this past Saturday. The Blue Devils went undefeated in the dual-format meet, topping Albemarle County, Fluvanna County, Miller School, William Monroe, and host Woodberry Forest.

QUOTE: "It's rare for a team to open the season with such a strong showing at its very first meet," said head coach Jon Larson. "Normally, it takes a few competitions to iron out the kinks and realize what details we still need to cover, especially for our new swimmers. But this weekend, everything clicked. I didn't have to change the lineup once, we had zero disqualifications, and we came away with five individual state-qualifying times: Scheel in the 200 and 500 freestyle; Keen Wang in the 200 freestyle; and Leen Wang in both the 200 IM and 100 butterfly. We also qualified all three relays for states.

"We had two swimmers come heartbreakingly close to qualifying. Jenson missed by just .04 seconds in the 50 free, and Keen Wang missed by .07 seconds in the 100 free. And we had three swimmers qualify for states in the Bonus 50 Free: Jenson, Kaiden Myer, and Beau Washington. A coach from another school even commented on how excited our guys were. He asked me if our cadets thought they were already at States."
