Fork Union Military Academy is excited to announce Chris McGraw as Head Varsity (Prep) Basketball Coach. McGraw joins us from Vanderbilt University, where he served as a graduate assistant for the men's basketball program over the past two years.
During his tenure at Vanderbilt, McGraw contributed to a 22-win season, guiding the team to the semifinals of the SEC Championship, and advancing to the quarterfinals of the NIT in 2022-2023. He played a key role in the development of 2022-2023 SEC Defensive Player of the Year Liam Robbins, who signed with the New Orleans Pelicans in 2023.Â

Before his time in Nashville, McGraw played two seasons at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, earning Academic All-Big Ten honors twice. The Columbus, Ohio native began his collegiate athletic career at Ohio University. Â

McGraw is no stranger to military academies, having spent a postgraduate year at Hargrave Military Academy, where he was part of a team that achieved a 37-4 record and finished fourth in the nation. Â

A graduate of the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, McGraw earned a Bachelor of Science in Human Development and Family Science with minors in Sociology and Communication Studies in 2022. In 2024, he received a Master of Leadership and Organizational Performance from Vanderbilt University. Â

In addition to his coaching duties, McGraw will also serve as the Leadership Instructor at the Academy. Â
