FORK UNION, Va. – The Fork Union Military Academy Junior Prep basketball team edged Saint Anne's Belfield, 36-34, with a buzzer-beater Tuesday afternoon at the Thomas Gym.
With 15 seconds to play and the score tied at 34, Saint Anne's Belfield tried to inbounds the ball but Fork Union came up with a steal and
Niles Johnson laid it in just before the buzzer to record the victory.
The win lifted the Blue Devils to 5-5 overall.
"It was another great team win," said head coach
Reggie Barnette. "I did not think we played our best in the first half, but the guys responded in the second half with more effort and intensity. We have a tough opponent in John Paul the Great, so I am excited to see our approach to practice throughout the next few days."
Johnson and
Ford DeVault led the squad with seven points, while
Logan French and
Kobe Edmonds followed with six apiece.
Fork Union returns to action Friday, Feb. 2 when it hosts John Paul the Great at 5 p.m.
