FORK UNION, Va. – The Fork Union Military Academy Middle School basketball team defeated St. Christopher's, 27-24, Tuesday afternoon in the Estes Athletic Center. The two teams played in the Estes Athletic Center due to the Prep and Junior Prep basketball games at the Thomas Gym.
The win lifted the Blue Devils to a 5-1 overall record.
"The team did a good job bouncing back after a tough loss to Fluvanna," said head coach
Brooks Berry. "We have been playing with five players this week due to the flu coupled with a large group of players who needed to spend extra time with the Commandant's Department in the afternoon."
Cameron Everett led the squad with 15 points, while
Robert Holmes added eight of his own.
Sulaimon Abubakar-Shidi recorded a team-high eight rebounds.
"The five boys who were able to compete played extremely hard and did so without any subs," added Berry. "We continue to teach team defense, staying connected as a group in order to get stops. We must improve in that area and rebound the basketball better. We are also stressing sharing the basketball on offense, whether we are playing against a zone or man defense. I am very proud of the group that played this week. They showed heart and toughness."
Fork Union will return to action Wednesday, Jan. 31 when it travels to Collegiate School for a 5:35 p.m.
