RECORD: 2-5
SHORT STORY: The Fork Union Military Academy Middle School Basketball team battled to a hard-fought 24-19 road victory over Saint Anne's-Belfield on Thursday afternoon, securing a season sweep against the Saints.
Despite missing their leading scorer,
Ethan Wells, due to a wrist injury, the team rallied together for a full team effort. Strong defensive pressure led to key turnovers, allowing Fork Union to capitalize on fast breaks and attack the basket, generating opportunities at the free-throw line and on the offensive glass.
QUOTE: "We were without our leading scorer,
Ethan Wells, who had a wrist injury, so the team stepped up, and it was an all-around effort and buy-in to our game plan," said head coach Darren Keithley. 'We were able to cause several turnovers, push the ball up the court, get some transition buckets, and attack the basket, which allowed us to get to the free-throw line or have an opportunity for offensive rebounds.
Once on the bus, the team was smiling, yelling, and celebrating our team's win. Everyone contributed to the game, and I am very proud of each of them."
The win marks a strong momentum boost as the Blue Devils continue their season.
UP NEXT: The Blue Devils return to action on Thursday, February 13, traveling to the Field School for a 4:30 p.m. tipoff.
