SHORT STORY: Fork Union Military Academy's Middle School basketball team started the season strong, earning a 28-17 victory over Saint Anne's Belfield (STAB) in front of a supportive home crowd at the Thomas Gymnasium Thursday.
QUOTE: "For our first game of the season, we had several positives to build upon," said head coach Darren Keithley. "It also showed us areas we need to improve. I am thankful for a team effort and for staying positive when we had to lock in to pull ahead. I'm also grateful for all the cadets who supported us after their practices and brought some noise and energy we fed off of – much appreciated!"
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Eighth-grader Ethan Wells led the way with an impressive 16 points, setting the tone for the team.
- Eighth-grader Lowell Bush and seventh-grader Rylan Smith dominated the paint, securing key rebounds and contesting shots on defense.
- Point guards Fidevin Igiraneza and Devin Cook played pivotal roles in managing the game, making smart decisions with the ball and guiding the offense.
- The entire team showed determination on both ends of the court, battling for every possession and contesting every shot.

The Blue Devils return to Thomas Gymnasium on Thursday, December 19, to face Fluvanna Middle School. Tip-off is scheduled for 4:30 p.m.
