Sherwood, Alexander Sign to Play at the Next Level

FORK UNION, VAFork Union Military Academy is proud to announce that postgraduate cadets Darien Sherwood and Ellery Alexander have signed National Letters of Intent to continue their lacrosse careers at the collegiate level.

Sherwood will attend Wheaton College, while Alexander has signed with Wheeling University. The signing ceremony took place Monday morning at the Estes Athletic Center, marking a significant milestone in both cadets' athletic and academic journeys.

"This is an exciting day for our PG Lacrosse program," said head coach Chris Panos. "With just 16 players on our roster, Darien and Ellery become the 11th and 12th members of this group to sign at the next level, which speaks volumes about their work ethic and the strength of this program.

"Darien has been a mainstay in goal for us," Panos continued. "He had several opportunities coming out of high school, but this year allowed him to mature and take his game to another level, especially physically. We're incredibly proud of his development and excited to see what he will do at Wheaton.

"Ellery is one of the most versatile players we've had," added Panos. "He contributed on both sides of the field, playing LSM, short-stick defensive midfield, and as a true defender. He's a complete player who brings tremendous value, and I truly believe he has the potential to be a breakout player at Wheeling."

Sherwood, the son of Tatum Lakowsky and Charles Sherwood III of Waterford, Connecticut, joined Fork Union this year during the program's second postgraduate season. The 6-foot goalkeeper quickly established himself as a key presence in the net.

"First, I want to thank the coaches for giving me this opportunity," said Sherwood. "To my teammates, I love you guys. Thank you for making this year, as challenging as it was, such a great experience. And to my family, thank you for all the sacrifices you've made to put me in this position."

Alexander, the son of Eddie and Judy Alexander of Toronto, Ontario, also joined the Academy this year. The 6-foot-3 midfielder made an immediate impact with his versatility and leadership on the field.

"I'd like to thank everyone for being here today," said Alexander. "To my parents, although they couldn't be here, thank you for giving me this opportunity to come to Fork Union and show what I can do. I'm also grateful to Coach Frey and Coach Panos for welcoming me into the program, and to Mrs. Patrick for all her help throughout the recruiting process. And to my teammates, thank you for making this such a special year."

Congratulations to Darien and Ellery on this outstanding achievement.
