FORK UNION, VA – Fork Union Military Academy proudly announces that two of its distinguished alumni, John Dorsey (Class of 1980) and the late Richard "Dick" Biddle (Class of 1966), have been named to the 2026 ballot for induction into the College Football Hall of Fame. Their nominations underscore the Academy's enduring legacy in cultivating exceptional football talent and leadership.
Dorsey's football journey began at Fork Union, where he honed the skills that would propel him to the University of Connecticut. At UConn, Dorsey distinguished himself as a formidable linebacker, earning All-American honors. He was selected in the fourth round of the 1984 NFL Draft by the Green Bay Packers, where he played for five seasons. Transitioning from player to executive, Dorsey made significant contributions to the NFL, notably as the General Manager for the Kansas City Chiefs and the Cleveland Browns, where his keen eye for talent helped shape competitive rosters.
Biddle's illustrious career in football began at Fork Union and continued at Duke University, where he was a standout linebacker. After a brief professional playing career, Biddle embarked on a coaching career that would leave an indelible mark on college football. As the head coach at Colgate University from 1996 to 2013, he amassed a record of 137-73, making him the winningest coach in the program's history. Under his leadership, Colgate secured seven Patriot League titles and made multiple NCAA playoff appearances.
Biddle's coaching excellence earned him the AFCA Coach of the Year award in 2003 and four Patriot League Coach of the Year honors. He passed away in August 2023, leaving behind a legacy of mentorship and success.
Fork Union Military Academy has a storied tradition of producing football talent, with over 120 alumni advancing to the NFL. The nominations of Dorsey and Biddle to the College Football Hall of Fame highlight the Academy's commitment to excellence in athletics and character development.
The National Football Foundation's Honors Court will deliberate and announce the 2026 College Football Hall of Fame class in early 2026. Inductees will be honored at the 68th NFF Annual Awards Dinner in December of 2026.
