LOCATION: Woodberry Forest, VA | Woodberry Forest School
RESULTS: 4th out of 7 Teams
SHORT STORY: Fork Union Military Academy's outdoor track and field team delivered a strong showing at the 2025 Virginia Prep League Championships on Saturday. The Blue Devils earned eight top-five finishes, including two Prep League titles, to secure a fourth-place overall finish at the meet held at Woodberry Forest School.
QUOTE: "Quite a day," said head coach Winston Brown. "We started slow but finished with fury. We took a few knocks early but only got better as the meet wore on. Had you told me in November that Carmelo Spaulding would be the 300-meter hurdle champion, I would have been surprised.
"We were great in the distance events. The 1600 was one to remember. Walsh began the day as a 4:38 miler and ended it as a 4:23 miler, two different people. As for
David Eaton, this meet marked his arrival into elite high school distance running.
"Luke Boucher-Zazzaro battled through food poisoning and still nearly won the 400. Our team got a huge jolt from Mekyi Shepard, who was stellar in three events. Shepard and Whiteside both split 49-second legs in the victorious 4x400.
Shaun Matthews and Nic Willis were also outstanding in the relay that clinched the win in 3:23."
KEY PERFORMERS:
- Luke Boucher-Zazarro: 2nd in the 400-meter with a time of 50.75
- 4x100 Relay Team: 3rd with a time of 43.22 thanks to Nehamiah Allen, Whiteside, Shepard, and Isaiah Kittrell
- David Eaton: 4th in the 1600-meter run with a time of 4:29.61
