FORK UNION, VA – Fork Union Military Academy is proud to announce that three members of its inaugural Postgraduate Lacrosse program have signed National Letters of Intent to continue their lacrosse careers at the collegiate level. Zak Marshall committed to Point Park University, Mitchell Waynick to Rochester Institute of Technology, and Max Cary to Webber International University, the Academy announced Thursday morning at a special signing ceremony.
"Other than game day, this is one of the most special moments for me as a coach," said head coach
Chris Panos. "This is what these young men have worked so hard for, a culmination of their dedication, effort, and perseverance. It's an incredible honor to see them earn the opportunity to pursue their dreams of playing at the next level while also receiving a great education. First, we have
Zak Marshall from Ontario, one of our toughest, most tenacious, and gritty players. He has improved in every aspect of the game, and we are proud to announce that he will continue his career at Point Park University. Then, there's
Mitchell Waynick, out of Annapolis, Maryland, an incredible athlete and excellent student. He will be attending Rochester Institute of Technology, a Division III powerhouse with an outstanding lacrosse program, where he will make an immediate impact. Lastly,
Max Cary, our most improved player, is heading to Webber International University. Coming from Iowa, a non-traditional lacrosse area, he has shown remarkable growth. He is also a professional water skier, making Webber a great fit for him. To me, this day highlights the diversity of talent we are able to develop here at Fork Union. I am incredibly proud of these young men and grateful to have had them as part of this program."
A 5-foot-8 attack out of Christ the King Catholic Secondary School in Acton, Ontario, Marshall is the son of Elizabeth and Bryce Marshall.
"I would like to thank God and my parents, who have helped me tremendously. They pushed me out the door and gave me this opportunity to come here, improve my academics, and ultimately commit to a school where I can continue my lacrosse career. I also want to thank the coaches, Mrs. Patrick, my teammates, and D-3 Delta Company for their support," said Marshall.
A 6-foot-0 midfielder from St. Mary's Annapolis in Annapolis, Maryland, Waynick is the son of Lisa and David Waynick.
"I want to thank the coaching staff for believing in me and giving me this opportunity. It has made a huge impact on my growth as a player and person. A special thanks to Delta Company and my teammates, who have made this experience so special, and to my parents for supporting me along the way." added Waynick.
A 6-foot-5 attack from Dubuque County, Iowa, Cary is the son of Kris and Steven Cary.
"First, I have to thank my Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. I wouldn't be here without Him. I also want to thank my coaches for pushing me and helping me develop into the player I am today. When I arrived, I had so much to learn, but thanks to their guidance, I have improved tremendously. A huge thanks to Mrs. Patrick for her help with academics and recruiting, and, of course, to my parents, who have supported me every step of the way," said Cary.
