SHORT STORY: Fork Union Military Academy's Postgraduate basketball program hosted its annual Christmas Tournament this weekend inside Thomas Gymnasium, finishing as the runner-up after falling to military school rival Hargrave Military Academy, 98–80, in Saturday's championship matchup.
Fork Union opened the tournament with an explosive offensive performance against Chosen 1 Academy, putting all 13 players into the scoring column in a dominant 106-49 victory. On Championship Saturday, Fork Union battled Hargrave in a high-intensity contest that remained closer than the final score indicated, with FUMA generating multiple opportunities in the second half before Hargrave ultimately pulled away.
QUOTE: "I would like to thank our students, faculty, staff, administration, and alumni for supporting the annual Christmas Tournament," said head coach
Bob Williams. "Although it didn't turn out the way we wanted, it was still a successful weekend. Our Corps of Cadets were outstanding as the sixth man. They provided a great atmosphere.
"Congratulations to Hargrave. They played very well in the championship game.
"I was happy with how our team played for the most part. We need to shoot better, obviously, and gain a better understanding of what is a good shot for our team.
Phoenix Sickles and
Adarius Boston played great.
Finn Perschau was terrific on Friday night. I thought our point guards, Tay Mann and
Aiden Zamor, both had good weekends.
"The intensity of the Hargrave game will only make our team better as we progress through the season. The championship game was closer than the score indicated, and we had our chances throughout the second half but couldn't capitalize."
