SHORT STORY: Fork Union Military Academy's Postgraduate Basketball team went undefeated at its annual Fork Union Classic this past weekend, extending its perfect start to the season.
The squad opened play Friday evening with an 86–77 victory over Wesley Christian Academy before closing out the event with an 85–74 win against Experience Prep on Saturday.
QUOTE: "We saw some really good basketball during the Fork Union Classic," said head coach
Bob Williams. "Our team looked sharp Friday night, and a lot of guys got valuable minutes. Both games came down to the wire, and our players did a great job holding on for the wins.
"On Saturday, we didn't play our best early and found ourselves down six with about four minutes left. But our guys responded with a 17–0 run to close the game. They showed a lot of fight and toughness. Several players had just finished taking the SAT that morning, so that might explain the slow start.
"Two of our bigs,
Keoni Sacco and
Phoenix Eggleston, were returning from injuries and showed some rust, but they battled.
Phoenix Sickles shot the ball really well Friday night,
Adarius Boston was consistent both days averaging 24 points for the weekend, and I thought
DJ Williams and Tay Mann both had strong performances."
