SHORT STORY:
Fork Union Military Academy's Postgraduate basketball program captured the Christmas Tournament Championship with a 64-47 victory over Chosen 1 Academy on Saturday, capping off a successful weekend of competition at the Thomas Gymnasium. The Blue Devils welcomed Chosen 1 Academy, Erie Prep Academy, and Experience Academy to campus.
QUOTE: It was a good weekend for Fork Union Military Academy, winning the Christmas Tournament Championship," said head coach Bob Williams. "We also honored a great man in Duane Fender and carried on his legacy here at Fork Union."
"I thought we were sloppy at times on Friday and in the first half on Saturday," added Williams. "But our defense was consistent throughout the weekend. The defense has been good enough to win all season (Chosen 1 was 31.7% from the floor on Saturday) and gives our offense time to come around. That is what happened in the second half of the Championship game, as our offense improved throughout the day."
Saturday's Win against Experience Prep:
- Javon Brooks tallied 11 points, including three three-pointers.
- Jacob King also tallied 11 points and added four rebounds.
Sunday's Win against Chosen 1 Academy:
- Javon Brooks followed with 15 points, including two three-pointers.
Following the Championship game, the tournament committee announced the All-Tournament and All-Academic teams.
Jordan Clayton and
Isaiah Vick earned spots on the All-Tournament Team, alongside Ashton Holland-Lane (Chosen 1 Academy), Joseph Boddie (Erie Prep), and Josiah Brandon (Experience Prep), and
Zech Lilly and Zeke Birchett were recognized for their academic excellence on the All-Academic Team.
