LINCOLN, NC – The Fork Union Military Academy Postgraduate basketball team picked up two conference wins at the Combine Academy Tournament this past weekend. The Blue Devils defeated Mount Zion Academy, 82-77, and Massanutten Military Academy, 72-62.
The two wins improved Fork Union to 21-3 on the season and 4-0 in the Elite Prep League.
"It was a good trip to North Carolina for our team winning two big EPL games," said head coach
Bob Williams. "I was very happy with our defense and toughness. I think we got the rust off from the Holiday Break. Mount Zion has seven to eight legit Division I prospects on their team, including three high level guards and six players over 6'10. We basically start four guards, so it was an amazing performance by our guys. I am so proud of them. They are a special group."
Against Massanutten,
DeSean Goode led four Blue Devils in double figures with a 19-point performance.
Jaden Johnson followed with 18 points, while
Carter Wesson added 14 points and
David Burnett added 12 points.
Against Mount Zion,
Michael Wilson led three Blue Devils in double figures with a 23-point performance. Wesson and Johnson followed with 22 points and 19 points, respectively.
The two wins put Fork Union on top of the Elite Prep League leader board with two conference games left prior to the EPL Tournament. The squad returns to action Saturday, January 27 when they face Golden State Prep at the Hargrave Military Circuit at 12:30 p.m.
