FORK UNION, VA -- Fork Union Military Academy is set to host the 22nd annual Gus Lacy Track Classic Saturday, April 22 at 10:30 a.m. at the Gus Lacy Track. Admission is free. Spectator parking will be located in the grass lot between the track and Route 15. 

The annual meet honors Fork Union legend E.H. "Gus" Lacy, a former track coach, teacher and administrator at the Academy and the 2023 Gus Lacy Track Classic honorees are Peter and Alex Lomong. 

Peter (Class of 2015) and Alex (Class of 2016) arrived in America on February 13, 2009 at the ages of 12 and 11, respectively, from South Sudan and began school at Fork Union Military Academy. They quickly became local legends with their always entertaining performances in track and cross country. 

The brothers ran for Fork Union in every season they attended the Academy. They were the heart and soul of the team from 2013 to 2016. Between them there are 15 individual state championships, three All-American honors and three state team titles. Both were All-State athletes, a grand total of 23 times. Alex was an All-Sate athlete in all twelve of his high school seasons. In 2015, the duo with the help of Drake Davis and O'Neil Combs ran a US No. 1-ranked sprint medley. In 2016, Alex was part of the historic 800-meter race at the nearby Dogwood Track Classic, where three runners finished in a near dead heat in 1:48. The race to date has over 1.7 million views on the internet. 

For Peter, the best days were in college as he earned All-American honors in cross country twice. He was a scoring member of two national champion teams while at Northern Arizona University. After FUMA, Alex ran for Ohio State University and later Iowa State University. At ISU, he earned All-America honors in indoor track and was a national semi-finalist in outdoor track for the 800-meter. Alex is a 2020 Ohio State graduate. 

Today, the dynamic duo reside in Fork Union and train tirelessly to become professional runners. They currently represent District Vision, an up and coming apparel line. Fork Union is proud to welcome them back as the 2023 Gus Lacy Track Classic honorees. 

Fork Union Military Academy also honors past alumni at the annual Gus Lacy Track Classic with naming an event after an alum. Below is the list of events and honorees:
