FORK UNION, VA -- Sophomore
Maurice D'Alessandro earned All-Prep basketball honors, the Virginia Prep League announced this week.
"We have many good players on our team, but it is always an honor to be recognized by the opposing coaches, especially in a very competitive league like the Prep League," said head coach
Ben D'Alessandro. "Maurice seemed to turn it on and carry a greater load for our team, later in the season, especially in league play – he hit some big shots that helped us win some games. He invested a great deal of time, on his own, coming in early before school or staying late after practice, working on his game, so it is a lesson that hard work and dedication pays off. For our program, individual awards matter less than team success, and even individual awards are earned as a team because we are all interdependent on each other working together well. I know Rece loves his teammates and shares this award with them. As a program and a team, we consider it a wonderful blessing, from the Lord, that He keeps us healthy and provides opportunities to compete in a game we love. So, an honor such as this is always nice, but it pales in comparison with pleasing our Lord through our character, how we honor Him and the humility with which we handle the success He provides us."
D'Alessandro led the Blue Devils in scoring with 13.1 points per game, ranked second on the squad in assists with 2.2 per game and was third on the squad in rebounding with 4.6 rebounds per game. The Palmyra, Va., native is the son of Karen and head coach
Ben D'Alessandro.
