FORK UNION, VA – Senior
Michael Cunningham led the Fork Union Military Academy Prep basketball team to a thrilling victory against Christchurch School with a school-record 60 points in the 93-92 overtime win this past Friday.
In addition to his 60 points, Cunningham led the squad with 12 rebounds and four assists.
After falling behind 36-23 at the half, Fork Union outscored the Seahorses, 38-26, in the fourth quarter to eventually tie the score at 83 on a last-second layup by Cunningham.
In the overtime period, fouls got the best of both teams, but Christchurch had a short bench and was limited to just three players for the last two minutes of the contest and Fork Union was able to hold the one-point lead for the last five seconds of play.
The win lifted the Blue Devils to 2-2 overall.
Following the victory, Fork Union fell on the road to Saint Anne's Belfield Saturday afternoon.
The Blue Devils return to action Friday, Jan. 12 when they travel to Collegiate School at 6 p.m.
