Fork Union Military Academy Welcomes Tyler Frey as Assistant Lacrosse Coach and Recruiting Coordinator

FORK UNION, VA – Fork Union Military Academy is proud to announce the hiring of Tyler Frey as the Assistant Lacrosse Coach and Recruiting Coordinator for its postgraduate lacrosse program. Coach Frey officially joined the staff on June 8, 2025, bringing with him a strong background in collegiate coaching, player development, and national recruiting.

Coach Frey most recently served as the Head Men's Lacrosse Coach at Davis & Elkins College (NCAA Division II) in West Virginia, where he became the winningest coach in program history in just two seasons. His 2024 squad tied the school record for most single-season wins, while also achieving the program's highest-ever team GPA in fall 2025 under his leadership.

"We're thrilled to welcome Tyler Frey to Fork Union," said Associate Athletic Director and Head Postgraduate Lacrosse Coach Chris Panos. "I'm excited to add Tyler Frey to my staff and work with him for the upcoming 2025–26 season and beyond. He has extensive experience at the NCAA level as a coach and player and additionally has been very successful in recruiting top talent across the country and Canada as well. I look forward to adding his strong capabilities, relentless work ethic, and future contributions to all areas of the program as we enter year two of the postgraduate lacrosse program era at FUMA."

Before his tenure at Davis & Elkins, Frey served as Head Varsity Lacrosse Coach at Porter Ridge High School in Indian Trail, North Carolina, where he led the team to a historic playoff appearance and developed several All-Conference and All-State athletes. He also spent three years coaching with Team 91 Charlotte, one of the Southeast's premier lacrosse development programs, where he focused on player growth, playbook design, and tournament coaching across multiple states.

Frey began his coaching career at Butler High School in Matthews, North Carolina, and later transitioned into a head coaching role during the COVID-19 pandemic, guiding the program through uncertain times and successfully rebuilding the team.

Prior to his coaching career, Frey served as a radio color analyst for the Charlotte Hounds of Major League Lacrosse, working with ESPN/WFNZ Radio Charlotte. A former goaltender himself, he graduated from Mercyhurst University with a degree in Communication and a specialization in Broadcast and New Media.

Coach Frey will serve as Assistant Coach and Recruiting Coordinator, playing a key role in athlete development and talent acquisition as Fork Union continues to grow its lacrosse program.
