SHORT STORY:
Fork Union Military Academy's Postgraduate Lacrosse team came up just short in a thrilling season finale, falling 18-17 to Army Prep on Saturday at the historic Michie Stadium.
The contest was tightly contested from the opening faceoff. Both teams traded goals in a fast-paced first quarter that ended knotted at 4-4. Fork Union edged ahead by halftime with a strong offensive showing in the second quarter, outscoring Army Prep 7-6 to take an 11-10 lead into the break. The third quarter remained evenly matched, with both teams finding the back of the net and the score tied 14-14 heading into the final frame.
Despite Fork Union adding three more goals in the fourth, a few untimely penalties and turnovers gave Army Prep the opportunity to capitalize, scoring four times in the final quarter, including the game-winner in the final 10 seconds of regulation.
QUOTE: "It was an exciting, back-and-forth battle, and I'm incredibly proud of the resilience and determination our team showed," said head coach Chris Panos. "We got off to a strong start, matched their intensity, and held a slight lead at the half. Even with some mistakes down the stretch, our guys kept fighting. This game marked the end of our inaugural season, and I couldn't be prouder of our players, coaches, and staff for their commitment over the past eight months. I'm already looking forward to next season and building on the strong foundation we've established. If you're a 2025 or 2026 high school player looking for an incredible opportunity, reach out!
