FORK UNION, VA – Fork Union Military Academy is proud to announce that senior Philippe Lianavwa has signed a commitment letter to play soccer at Shenandoah University. The signing ceremony took place Tuesday morning at the Estes Athletic Center, marking an important milestone in Lianavwa's athletic and academic journey.
"It's truly an honor and privilege to have this opportunity in my first year here at the Academy," said head coach Nolan De Four. "When I first met Philippe, I was beyond impressed. In just one year, he has proven to be a tremendous young man both on and off the field and has set the standard for the future of this program. I'm really excited to see what God has in store for his future. When I spoke with Coach (Brandon) Kates at Shenandoah, he told me, 'I really want this kid.' We stayed in contact, and now here we are, celebrating Philippe's commitment to continuing his soccer career at the next level. It's been quite some time since we've had a signing like this, and it's a privilege to have Philippe represent Fork Union Soccer in this next chapter."
Lianavwa, the son of Joel Maliabwana and Liliane Kamungele of the Democratic Republic of the Congo, enrolled at the Academy in the 10th grade and has been a key player on the soccer team ever since. This year, he also serves on the Battalion Staff, further demonstrating his leadership within the Corps of Cadets.
"I want to thank God for this amazing opportunity to play the sport I love at the next level," said Lianavwa. "I also want to thank my family — I know they are not here, but I love them and appreciate their support. To all my coaches and teachers, I'm grateful for everything you've done for me. And last but not least, I want to thank all my Fork Union brothers. They have been instrumental in my journey here. Go FUMA!"
Congratulations, Philippe, on this incredible achievement!
