FORK UNION, VA – Senior
Lance Gowans of the Fork Union Military Academy Prep baseball program signed with Mary Baldwin University Tuesday afternoon at the Estes Athletic Center.
"I can't express how proud I am of Lance and his decision to go to Mary Baldwin," said head coach
Jacob Grabeel. "He will excel at the college level with how much effort he already puts into his craft and the compassion he has for the game and his teammates. It has been an honor coaching him, and I hope for nothing but good things for his bright future!"
Gowans is the son of Paul Gowans and Erica Brown of Palmyra, Virginia and has been enrolled at the Academy for two years. Gowans, a team captain, has played in all 10 games this season, recording nine hits with five singles, two doubles and one homerun, nine RBI and four runs scored for a .273 average at the plate. On the mound, the lefty has appeared in eight games, striking out 24 in 19.1 innings with four starts for an ERA of 1.810.
Congratulations, Lance!
