RICHMOND, VA– The Fork Union Military Academy Prep baseball team took the lead late in the game in a 10-7 victory over Collegiate on Friday. The game was tied at four with the Blue Devils batting in the top of the fifth when
Carter Crawford singled on a 2-1 count, scoring one run.
The base paths were crowded in this high-scoring game. Blue Devils collected 13 hits, while Collegiate had six.
Fork Union got on the board in the first inning when
Brent Lowry doubled on a 1-1 count, scoring one run.
Collegiate knotted the game up at four in the bottom of the third inning.
Drue Hackenberg earned the win for Blue Devils. He allowed five hits and six runs over five innings, striking out two. Lowry threw two innings in relief out of the bullpen.
Will Hutchins led things off on the hill for Collegiate. He lasted two innings, allowing six hits and four runs while striking out two and walking zero. Trey Boll, Lew Rice, and Charlie Willingham each contributed in relief for Collegiate.
Fork Union saw the ball well today, racking up 13 hits in the game.
Luke Wilson, Lowry, Crawford, Hackenberg,
Hayden Miles, and
John Henry each collected multiple-hit performances for Blue Devils.
The win lifts Fork Union to 4-10 overall.
The Blue Devils return to action Tuesday, May 1 when they travel to Saint Anne's Belfield for a 6 p.m. first pitch.
