ASHLAND, VA -- Fork Union Military Academy's middle school wrestling squad opened its season at Liberty Middle School Thursday evening. The Blue Devils defeated Liberty for their first victory of the season.
"I am proud of our performance tonight," said assistant coach
Bennett Radinovic. "They came out ready to compete and left it all on the mat. I am also impressed by how out first-year wrestlers competed. Their hard work is really starting to pay off."
For all but one Blue Devil, it was the first wrestling match of their young careers.
Trhiston Odman,
Jamie Penn,
Luke Toma and
Lucas Yates all recorded first career wins, all by pin fall.
Owen Leydig went 3-0 on the night, defeating all his opponents by pin fall.
Fork Union returns to action Friday, Dec. 1 when it hosts the two-day Blue Devil Invitational at 5:30 PM. Saturday's competition begins at 9 a.m.
