SHORT STORY: Senior David Eaton's first-place performance helped lead the Fork Union Military Academy cross country team to a second-place team finish at Knights Crossing on Saturday at Green Hill Park in Salem, Virginia.
Eaton (Madison Heights, VA) crossed the finish line in 15:56.40 to win the 5,000-meter race, breaking the 16-minute mark for the first time in his career. Four additional Blue Devils placed among the top 50 as Fork Union finished second overall in the 30-team field.
QUOTE: "We had a great effort on Saturday, narrowly missing a win at a very large invitational," said head coach Winston Brown. "For David Eaton, it was a remarkable day, getting the win and breaking 16 minutes for the first time. Noah St. Julien ran well for two-thirds of the race, but a cramp unfortunately kept him from a top-two finish. It was a big day for
Jonah Brown as well, as he won his first medal as a varsity runner.
"Our four and five runners ran very smartly and worked well together to keep us in it. Tyran Johnson and Austin Knowlton have big days coming. And speaking of big days, September 19 is the 29th running of the Invitational at Hardy Cross Country Course. See you there."
