FORK UNION, VA — Fork Union Military Academy is excited to announce
Daniel "Danny" Acosta as the Academy's new Head Baseball Coach. In addition to leading the baseball program, Acosta will serve as a foreign language instructor.
Acosta brings more than 30 years of experience in baseball leadership, coaching, and player development across the collegiate, professional, and Major League Baseball ranks.
"We are ecstatic to welcome Coach Acosta to our coaching staff," said
Winston Brown, Director of Athletics. "Danny comes to us with an incredible baseball resume. We are looking forward to the future of Fork Union Baseball under his guidance."
Acosta comes to Fork Union after serving as the head baseball coach at the University of Maryland Eastern Shore, an NCAA Division I program competing in the Northeast Conference, where he led the Hawks from August 2023 to May 2026. Prior to UMES, he spent three years as head coach at Iowa Lakes Community College in Estherville, Iowa.
During his time at Iowa Lakes, Acosta helped student-athletes succeed both on the field and in the classroom. In 2023, two Lakers earned All-Region honors, while eight student-athletes were named to the All-Region Academic Team.
Acosta's baseball career includes extensive professional experience. In the 1990s, he held coaching roles in Florida and Puerto Rico before working with Major League Baseball organizations, including the Texas Rangers and Seattle Mariners. He went on to serve as pitching coach for Santurce Cangrejeros, a professional team based in San Juan, Puerto Rico.
He began coaching at the collegiate level as an assistant coach at Iowa Lakes from 2006 to 2010 before returning to professional baseball with the San Francisco Giants organization. He later served as hitting coach for the Daytona Cubs, then a minor-league affiliate of the Chicago Cubs.
In 2017, Acosta was named associate head baseball coach at Piedmont International University, where he served for three seasons before returning to Iowa Lakes as head coach.
At Fork Union, Acosta will lead the Academy's baseball program with a focus on skill development, discipline, accountability, and preparing student-athletes for success on and off the field. With his extensive background in college baseball, professional baseball, and player development, Acosta brings valuable experience and leadership to Fork Union's athletic program.
