Thomas Lane joined Fork Union Military Academy on October 6, 2025, as the Academy’s new Head Wrestling Coach and Staff Accountant, Director of Athletics John Blake announced. 

Lane brings a decorated athletic background and strong professional experience to Fork Union. A three-time NCAA Division I National Qualifier and All-American at California Polytechnic State University (Cal Poly), Lane competed for the Mustangs from 2015 to 2020, finishing his collegiate career with an impressive 86-48 record. During his senior season, he was ranked as high as No. 5 nationally, posting a 20-5 record with three falls, three technical falls, and five major decisions. Lane placed third at the Cliff Keen Las Vegas Invitational, advanced to the quarterfinals at the 2019 NCAA Championships, and was consistently among the nation’s top 197-pound wrestlers. 

A native of Garden City, New York, Lane was a two-time Nassau County League 2 champion and finished third in the 2015 New York State Finals to cap a 42-3 senior season. He graduated from Cal Poly in 2020 with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration, concentrating in Accounting. 

In addition to his wrestling achievements, Lane is a former professional mixed martial artist known as “Freight Train.” He compiled an undefeated 4-0 professional record, earning recognition as one of the top-ranked middleweight fighters in multiple North American regions. 

Before joining Fork Union, Lane gained valuable experience in accounting and operations, serving as SC Controller for BioTrust Medical Waste, Accountant/Office Manager at Bryson Investment, Bookkeeper at Glave Realty, and Project Engineer at RCH Construction. 

In his dual role at Fork Union, Lane leads the wrestling program and supports the Business Office as Staff Accountant, where his athletic leadership and financial expertise help strengthen the Academy’s mission.
