Michael Tyrrell

Hired May 2024

Mike Tyrrell adds a wealth of coaching experience to Fork Union Military Academy, having led and assisted successful programs at various levels.

Most recently, he served as the head coach of the men's lacrosse program at the University of Saint Mary for two seasons (2023-2024). There, he fostered a winning environment, coaching six all-conference players and guiding the Aspires to consecutive KCAC Team of Character awards.

Prior to Saint Mary, Tyrrell's coaching journey encompasses both men's and women's lacrosse. He led the University of Charleston's women's program (Division II) in 2022 and served as an assistant coach for the women's program at Mercer University (2019-2022), where the Bears captured two Southern Conference Championships.

Additionally, he held assistant coaching positions at the University of Alabama-Huntsville (men's and women's) and the University of Tampa (men's and women's). At Huntsville, he contributed to a program boasting the highest-scoring offense in NCAA Division II Women's Lacrosse. Earlier, he played a key role in the University of Tampa's second-ever NCAA tournament appearance while also coaching a top-ten national defense.

Tyrrell's lacrosse expertise extends beyond coaching. He was a standout player at the University of Tampa, demonstrating his leadership as team captain in 2013 and his versatility playing both short-stick defense and attack.

Tyrrell joined Fork Union Military Academy not only as an assistant PG lacrosse coach but also as a Resource Instructor in May of 2024. Combining his coaching experience, leadership skills, and lacrosse knowledge, Tyrrell is a valuable asset to the PG lacrosse program and the Fork Union Military Academy community.
