Fork Union Military Academy proudly announced the hiring of Tyler Frey as Assistant Lacrosse Coach and Recruiting Coordinator for the PG Lacrosse Program on June 8, 2025.

Frey comes to Fork Union from his most recent role as Head Men’s Lacrosse Coach at Davis & Elkins College in West Virginia. In just two seasons leading the NCAA Division II Senators, Frey became the winningest coach in program history. His 2024 squad matched the program's record for most single-season wins, and under his leadership, the team also achieved its highest all-time GPA during the fall 2025 semester.

Before his time at Davis & Elkins, Frey served as Head Varsity Lacrosse Coach at Porter Ridge High School in Indian Trail, North Carolina, from August 2022 to January 2024. He led the team to a 6-10 regular season record, the second-best in school history, and secured just the second state playoff appearance in program history. His tenure was marked by key rivalry wins and the development of four All-Conference players, including the school’s first-ever All-State honoree.

From 2021 to 2024, Frey was a coach with Team 91 Charlotte, a nationally recognized development program managed by former professional lacrosse star Ryan Flanagan. Working with the 2028 team, Frey played a major role in player development, playbook design, and tournament coaching across several states.

Frey began his high school coaching career as Defensive Coordinator at Butler High School in Matthews, North Carolina (2016–2019), where he helped establish a top-three defense in the conference and produced the program’s first four All-Conference selections. In 2019, he was promoted to Head Coach and successfully guided the team through the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic, rebuilding the program and returning to competition in 2021.

Prior to coaching, Frey spent three seasons as a radio color analyst for the Charlotte Hounds of Major League Lacrosse with ESPN/WFNZ Radio Charlotte.

A former goaltender, Frey is a graduate of Mercyhurst University, where he earned his degree in Communication with a focus on Broadcast and New Media.
